Having finished our expedition today and returned to smoothwater to have a well deserved wash, making sure to get every Mossi out of our hair, ray and I have been left with time to think... A little dangerous I know.
The expedition has been truly incredible and has had some high and low points. Being the first people to navigate the sturgeon river section of our expedition this season meant that after a harsh winter some of the portages where a little more "challenging"! Day 1 saw our first 1600m portage take almost 4 hours, leaving morale slightly low. Especially considering the high temperatures and hoards of mosquitoes. Despite the challenges we have been very look to experience some incredible sights too, seeing moose, beaver, golden eagles, vultures and even two black bears. When we return to the UK I will post a full write up of each day including some photos and videos.
Ray and myself had tried to organise some work with the parks authority as part of our time in Canada however unfortunately this has fallen through. We where then faced with the prospect of either spending 6 days buming about or to try and arrange an early flight home. All attempts at sweet talking the lovely people at air transat where however sadly unsuccessful. This has left me to get a little bit creative... turning on my charm and making a few polite emails and phone calls I have managed to secure 5 days work for ray and myself in exchange for bed and board. Starting tomorrow we shall be working for camp Temagami helping the team prepare the camp for the coming season. I cannot wait to get back out on the lake and continue our adventure.
Thanks for reading.
