still 3 weeks out from our trip, i thought today would be as good an opportunity as any to get an update on the ground conditions in Temagami. Starting off: the Ottertooth website provides brilliant daily updates for the conditions as we get closer to the ice out date. Unfortunately, the picture that greeted me today was a little different than what I was expecting. trends over the last 10 years have shown that all ice has been completely gone, sometime between mid April and at the very latest 14th May. However this year the news so far suggest that this might happen a little bit later this year... The below image was taken on Temagami lake only yesterday! It still looks very much frozen to me!
On a more positive note I have also been following the trends of the river levels using the brilliant website: wateroffice.ec.gc.ca that really does make life a lot easier. Using this tool it seams to suggest that the ice has been melting at a substantial rate since mid April, despite a slight plateau towards the end of the month the signs are looking very positive! There is one thing for sure... At least we will not be short of water!
Once again, thanks for reading,
Nathan and Ray.
