After 23 hours of being on the go to get from the north west to Temagami it was really nice to sit down. For those wondering Ray was released after 5 minutes, having been stripped of a packet or two of chicken and a little bit of his dignity. (That explains his funny walk.)
On leaving the airport we where quick to sort the hire car and where soon on our way on the 250 mile drive north. On route we decided to stop and do our shopping for the exped. As we walked through the door of Walmart it dawned on us that we really should have planned this bit just a little bit more... after an hour and a half we had secured 10 days worth of food, some shot gun shells plus some chicken and muffins for the drive.
It was 22:00pm (03:00am GMT) and we where both rightly worn out when we arrived at our lodge in Temagami. A quick introduction to our hosts and a taste of the local wildlife (bloody mosquitoes) and it was off to bed.
A good night's sleep insured that we where ready for the day today. The morning consisted of looking over the logistics and discussing the potential of altering our route to really take in the best that Temagami has to offer. After that the day was rather uneventful taking the time to prep our food and kit ensuring we where ready for the next 10 days. This included prepping the trip wires in case of any bear encounters.
After the kit was packed Ray and I had a short trip into the town, with a population of only 900 it really does have a remote hick kind of feeling to it. However it must be said that the stereotypes are true. Every single Canadian we passed wished us a good day. This evening promises a good home cooked meal as well as a slightly over due shower...
